Monel metal grades at a glance with ASTM standard specification and equivalent chart

Monelis a common name for a group of nickel alloys that contain nickel the most with copper and other elements. The alloy is called cupronickel when the copper content exceeds nickel content. Usually, Monel contains from 52 to 67% of nickel. Monel properties and the composition make it stronger than pure nickel material. The formation could be by hot rolling or cold drawing. The cold drawn products precise in their dimensions and the hot rolled ones are much stronger. The alloy is very resistant especially to rapid flow of sea water. This property makes it best suited for sea water and marine applications. It is easy to be welded, machined and cold worked upon this material. The Monel price per kg differs from grade to grade and from product to product. You can contact us for a price list. There are differentMonel metal gradesavailable in the market. Each has a different composition and therefore specific mechanical properties and purposes. The grades are designated with letters and numbers. There areMonel 400, 401, 404, 405, 450, K-500, R-405 and Monel 502 grades available in the market. TheMonel alloy chemical compositiondiffers from grade to grade. TheMonel 400has high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. It is used in hydrocarbon processing, marine applications and in heat exchangers. The Monel 401 is used especially in electric and electronic applications. It has compatible brazing properties. The Monel 404 has low permeability and therefore it is used in electrical and electronic applications as well. The surface finish of alloy 405 is not very smooth because of the increased dose of sulfur in it, but it is very strong and is used in automatic screw machines. The Monel alloy applications differ with the grades of the alloy. Some special applications use the R-405 which is particularly resistant to hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acids.
